Fu Wenjun Finalist in the Sculpture Category of Global Art Awards 2021

The 2021 Global Art Awards ceremony was in Tokyo, Japan on October 9. The sculpture work "Serve the People" by artist Fu Wenjun is one of the ten finalists in the sculpture category of this year's Global Art Awards.

The Global Art Awards now in its 4th year are the international Awards for the Visual Arts. They were created by Global Art Agency MACA DMCC, to honour and generate public recognition of the achievements and positive contributions of artists.

Serve the People is a group sculpture of 11-meters long and 3.5-meters high, which took the artist some years to complete. About the work, he thinks, "Along with the Reform and Opening-up, a group of people who took up the harsh physical labor hauling loads up and down with sturdy bamboo shoulder, known as “bangbang” emerged. For more than 40 years, they have left many impressions on our generation. However, with the urbanization process, they will inevitably disappear on a certain day. This sculpture may become one of the last images of the bangbang. Created in a realistic way of expression, Serve the People hopes to draw people's attention on these itinerant porters. The life-size presentation wants to remind us that they are living around us and that we are living the history."
